AJ the celebrity parakeet was given to David Cota of Bradenton, Florida, by the late Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show in 1990. Cota's former bird, Axl, was to be a guest on the Tonight Show but had an "unfortunate accident" the night before his appearance. AJ went on to a repeat performance as well as appearances on other national television shows and in magazines and newspapers nationwide.
