The early morning hours on the St. Petersburg Pier's last day were peaceful, downright tranquil with only joggers, a few people fishing and pelicans near the inverted pyramid. An hour or so later, hundreds of people began to arrive for one last visit to the Tampa Bay icon. It closed on May 31. After two weeks, the approach to the Pier is expected to temporarily reopen, although the inverted pyramid will remain off-limits to everyone but the pelicans.
