  • Manhattanhenge on July 11, 2016 from 34th Street and Park Avenue. The term was coined by famed astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and has grown exponentially in popularity. Thousands of people turn out on major east / west streets in Manhattan to see the sun align with the canyons of skyscrapers.

  • The United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket lifted off from Launch Complex 41 at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. NASA's Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) spacecraft is in the protective payload cone, for a 9-month interplanetary mission to Mars. Liftoff was at 10:02 a.m. EST Nov. 26, 2011. MSL's components include a car-sized rover, Curiosity, which has 10 science instruments designed to search for signs of life and includes a rock-zapping laser beam.
